Day 1 (West)

We will begin by visiting the home of the Douglas family, Douglas in Lanarkshire, while here we will visit St Brides church and enter the mausoleum housing the grave of the Black Douglas and many other notable Douglas family members.

Then we will walk to Castle Douglas or Castle Dangerous to see the ruins there. After lunch we will visit Drumlanrig Castle (separate fee to get in not included) and have a guided tour of the castle and grounds.

Day 2 (East)

We will start in Melrose and visit Melrose Abbey, burial place of Robert the Bruce’s heart carried into battle by Jame the Good the Black Douglas.

Then we will visit Roxburgh Castle site of one of Black Douglas’s greatest battle victories.

We will then visit Berwick upon Tweed, to see the old Castle and town walls where Black Douglas re-captured the town from the English. Also the place where Douglas’s father was captured by Edward Longshanks.
